Extraterrestrial beings called Angels have appeared in Tokyo-3 – a city known to be impenetrable against angel attacks. Humanity is already on the brink of extinction due to the cataclysm nearly two decades ago, and if the attack isn’t stopped, mankind is doomed.

When the military’s weapon failed, they handed over the task to NERV – an organization led by Gendou Ikari. NERV specializes in building gigantic humanoid robots dubbed Evangelion(s) to eliminate the threat of angels.
