Paul Duncan, the former offensive lineman who played in the NFL for a brief stretch for the Denver Broncos has passed away. He was just 35 years of age and was an active player for Notre Dame. His wife, Ellen confirmed the news through an Instagram post. Duncan reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest while he had gone on a run.
As per the official report, Duncan went into a cardiac arrest on a run on the 15th of July and he was declared brain dead the next day. He has wife and two young daughters. The exact cause of death still remains under wraps as a detailed medical examination is yet to be carried out, however, his wife has stated that an autopsy is underway.
Duncan’s wife made the following statement after the offensive lineman’s untimely and unfortunate death. “We will have a medical examination to understand cause of death. His body will be donated to people in need of organs and to medical research.” The family is doing a noble deed by donating his body for research.
The untimely death of her father has put his daughter into shock, Duncan’s daughter Dillion after hearing the news of Paul being declared brain dead sat down and asked to listen to the song that “Dad just added to the morning playlist.” The song’s name that his daughter was referring to is titled, ‘I can only imagine.’
Paul Duncan was an amazing dad to his daughters and dancing was something that he loved to do with his family, the 35-year-old found ways to spend time with family “Dillon and Sloane loved Paul’s impromptu dance parties in the kitchen and his adventures with them in the water, whether it was at the lake with family or at the pool with friends,” his obituary read.
Duncan started for Notre Dame from 2005-09 and played a total of 18 games. He joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent. Notre Dame’s football team released a statement following the lineman’s death, “Our prayers go out to the family and friends of Paul Duncan. A great teammate, but more importantly a loving husband and father.”
