As Kyler Murray was entering his fourth year of the 4-year rookie contract by the Cardinals in 2022, worth $35.7 million. He took $23.6 million out of it as the signing bonus, and the rest was paid to him as base salary and the roster bonuses after the first year.
Ahead of the training camp for the fourth contract year, the Arizona Cardinals put up a contract extension offer worth $230.5 million for five years.
Before extending the contract, the Cardinals had the plan to put up a fifth-year option to their existing contract. In it, they were ready to offer a guaranteed $29.7 million to Kyler in 2022.
Furthermore, before signing the extension, Murray was already having $35 million of his contract left to be paid off while he was entering 2022. So, after this extension, Murray is technically under contract with the Cardinals for seven more years, with the total deal value being around $265.5 million.
The current contract ensures $160 million for Murray, but only $104.3 is the guaranteed signing amount, and the remaining amount is to be ensured during the period of the contract.
There is also a signing bonus of $29.035 million, which will be given to Murray over the next five years, which calculates to $5.807 million every year. Following that, there is another bonus of $36 million, which is due in 2023 and will be credited to Murray between 2023 and 2027, as $7.2 million a year.
Before the start of this deal, Kyler Murray had a salary cap of $11.2 million in 2022. It was concerning the combination of his signing bonus, roster bonus, and base salary.
The signing bonus of $23.6 million or $5.9 million per year, the base salary of $965,000, and a roster bonus of $4.5 million made up this total salary cap for Kyler in 2022.
Well, the salary cap increased for the same year, after he signed the extension contract. His base salary remained the same at $965,000, while the roster bonus was replaced with the new prorated signing amount of $5.807 million. After these inclusions, the total salary cap for Kyler Murray is $12.669 million in 2022.
As per the contract details, the salary camp will be positively impacted by Kyler, as his 2023 cap will be around $16 million and will rise to $51.857 in 2024. Following that, it will take a slight drop to around $45.615 million in the year 2025.
The last three years of the contract will credit him with a salary cap of $55.55 million in 2026, $43.535 million in 2027, and $46.35 million in 2028.
Kyler Murray is about to welcome a lot of dollars to his account, with this extension contract. In a tweet shared by Cameron Cox, Kyler mentions, “I appreciate the chance Arizona Cardinals took on me. I knew they would take heat for it… It’s a dream come true.”
As per Cameron Cox, Steve Keim, GM of Arizona Cardinals, says, there wasn’t any doubt about bringing Kyler on board. Although he mentions that Kyler wanted some things in this deal which would make it feasible for him to sign the contract, at the same time, the Cardinals also intended to reward him.

Among all the bonuses, he is getting $9.315 million as a workout bonus, and $4.25 million as per game bonus.
