Road expected to reopen next week

The Ada County Highway District reports that repairs on a sinkhole that formed in the roadway on Lemp St. between 20th and 21st streets continues, nearly two weeks after it first formed.

An old storm drain pipe that was made out of aluminum collapsed causing the sinkhole to form. A new PVC pipe is being put in its place. PVC is more resistant to corrosion from soil, water, and tree root damage.

The pipe is expected to be installed by the end of this week, according to ACHD. The road will be repaved once repairs are completed, meaning Lemp is expected to reopen by the middle of next week, weather dependent.

The total cost of these emergency repairs is expected to exceed $230,000, which was approved in an emergency meeting by ACHD commissioners.

Neighbors in the area who would normally place trash cans in the alleyway between 20th and 21st streets are reminded to place their cans on Heron St. or West Ridenbaugh while road closures are in place.

Regularly scheduled work will continue on 20th St. between Irene and Ridenbaugh, also working to replace the existing pipe.
