POWER COUNTY, Idaho (KBOI) -- A freight train derailed near American Falls Wednesday morning, causing 31 shipment containers to spill the soda ash it was hauling.
The freight train derailed at 7:15 a.m., about 100 yards west of Fish Hatchery Road. Police say spilling soda ash, a short nickname for sodium carbonate, should not cause any serious issues.
Union Pacific Rail Road quickly cleared the crossing and are working with authorities to clean up the area. The Power County Sheriff's Office says no injuries were reported after the incident.
Idaho Power, Power County Highway District, Idaho Fish & Game and Power County Emergency Services were a big help.
